This course covers lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and the use of the automated external defibrillator. Our course offers two different certifications. One for lifeguards and one for Shallow Water Lifeguards. There is no cost difference and the training is very similar. Shallow Water Lifeguard certification may be awarded to individuals who are not strong swimmers, but can swim 50 meters instead of the new 300 meter continuous swim requirement for deep water lifeguards. 

They can even walk in the weight test, which deep-sea guards have to swim 20 meters with a 10-pound weight. Now people who are not strong swimmers, but who are not afraid of water, can still be Lifeguards in pools that do not have deep water. If the trainee is unable to pass the deep water requirement at the time they originally take the training, but is successful in all other areas of training, they will receive a shallow water lifeguard license. 



If at any point they gain the ability to pass the more strenuous swimming requirements, they can upgrade to Deep Water Lifeguarding at no additional cost. Professional Lifeguard Recertification: 

This training covers Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen Supplement and Blood Pathogens. ALA is offering the new Professional Lifeguard Renewal or Recertification Program to new material for people who have been Lifeguards in the past.

The objective of the American Lifeguarding course is to teach candidates the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to quickly and effectively recognize and respond to emergencies and prevent drowning and injury. Below is a list of skills that will be covered in this course.

The training program requires good physical fitness. We recommend that you consult with your healthcare professional before participating in practice sessions. If there is a medical condition or disability that could prevent participation in activities, or if there are questions about full participation in the Lifeguard course, please contact us by email to discuss this before the course begins.

To enroll in the course, you can be any age, but US Labor Laws require you to be 15 or older to work in a pool, water park, or lake, and 18 or older to work on beaches. To successfully pass the full Lifeguard training miami usa, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • 300 meters continuously, using these styles in the following order:
  • 100 meter freestyle using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing power kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed by breathing to the side or to the front. 100 meter breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and slide sequence. The 100 yards can be a combination of freestyle and breaststroke. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using crawl or front breaststroke, dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 meters back to starting point with the object, and exit from the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

If your swimming skills are not strong, but you can swim at least 50 meters and meet the brick test requirements, you may receive a shallow water lifeguard card. At any time in the future if your swimming skills increase to the level of deep water requirements we will issue the Professional Lifeguard Card which will allow you to protect in both deep and shallow pools at no additional cost.

Upon successful completion of the Lifeguard course, each participant will receive a Lifeguard Certificate, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and First Aid, all of which are valid for 2 years under the new 2012 standards.
